Tales from the Lakes

Enya's Cumbrian Mountains |

It was absolute luxury to be picked up and driven in a spacious minibus. As we were travelling on the M6, heaven continue to open up and buckets of water were being chuck down from above!!
As we approached Cumbria and the Lake District, the sky cleared and the dust fell. with the sillouette of the cumbria Mountains against the dusky sky, music of enya playing in the minibus, it made the journey particularly memorable and magical!!
We arrived our rented home of the next few days and from then on miraculously the dry weather continued. we carried our bags into the house and claimed our individual spot before Ross cooked our first dinner with some of us helping out. Then we ate and chat in this spacious but cosy dinning room.
The rented house's great, we all had our own space, Andrew had his room in the attic with a games room adjacent to it, with table football, baby girl in pram, toy cooking set, the lot, Andrew said just in case he couldn't sleep in the night, there's plenty to do in the play room.
Great big well equipped kitchen with breakfast table by the window meant that we all can make our own breakfast and then eat at the table together while admiring the mountain view from the window.
We had such good weather with perfect condition on the lake that we were all struck by the reflection on the lake with the trees and mountains that we didn't know 'which was the right way up', which was the real object and the reflection! It was awsome!!
Our outings included lunch at a remote Pub on top of the hill along the Kurstone Pass by the roaring fire, coffee in the front garden in a Cafe in Grasmere, and we all felt on top of the world when we held our Core meeting in the top of Tan How with stunning lakes at our feet!!
On the morning of our return, as we all settled in the minibus, heaven opened up again as we head for home with a stop over in Cannock Chase and found a pub with an enjoyable two courses lunch for a fiver.
We all enjoyed our holiday so much that we are now making plans for the next one!! |

Swallows and Amazons... Eventually |

Well, I was actually ready when the minibus turned up to pick me up, which is a bonus for me. After a particularly good game of I Spy, we reached Banbury and the whole party was assembled (apart from the one who had to work!).
A terrible trip up with traffic and the weather, but I figured the best weather was being reserved for us when we got there. And this in fact was the case – we were blessed with dry weather and some sunshine – a rare occurrence considering the weather the week before.
We did so many things on the Saturday, there were too many to mention. One of my favourites was the boat trip round Conniston Water – apparently it was one of the lakes Arthur Ransome used in his Swallows and Amazons books. Childhood memories came flooding back and suddenly I remembered why I’d always wanted to live in the Lake District (until someone told me it rained a lot, anyway).
However funnily enough, I’d never even managed to visit it until this weekend, but I reckon the wait was worth it, the views were breathtaking and I just loved the wildness of it all. I’ll definitely return one day, but probably not to live. |

I spent Saturday on the train.
I know, I know, as one of the organisers I should have been on the minibus with the guys on the Friday, but unexpectedly having to work meant I travelled up on the Saturday, arriving at Ulverston at about 8.30pm. I was lethargically getting my stuff together as the train pulled in, and when it stopped there they were! All six Yes Group adventurers on the platform, right next to my carriage window. It was brilliant!
They were all there because they were on their way home from being adventurous. It sounded great, so we spent the evening cooking, eating and talking about it.
Next day we went to... some lake with a hill next to it. There's a few of them round there. After a bimble round the particularly pretty lake we climbed the hill and had a picnic and a core group meeting on top. With the best view ever.
Brainstorming ice skating and coffee evenings has never been more picturesque!
Wish you were there!
The whole thing reminded me that friends is what it's all about! |
